“Hello! My name is Farouq and it’s my pleasure to introduce myself as this year’s Events Director. Information systems are continually becoming more integrated and pivotal to our society, and this realization was a significant deciding factor in choosing to major in MIS. In this role, I hope to help educate my peers at ASoB on the potential and implications of Information Systems in both the workplace and everyday life, through engaging events. I’m also a student-athlete, so I spend a lot of time on the mat wrestling with the University of Alberta Golden Bears and on the field playing rugby with LT Rugby Club.”

“Hello! My name is Owen and I am the VP Finance for the MIS Club this year. I’m an honors accounting major with no minor. Now you might be wondering, “Owen, why are you in the MIS club if you’re going to sell your soul to the accounting grinding machine?” The answer is that I am very interested in not being replaced by technology and I feel that immersing myself in the most business related tech field is a good start. When I’m not mumbling about numbers and excel sheets, you can find me trying that restaurant you just heard of.”

“Hey, my name is Varshu, I’m an MIS Major and I am VP Marketing and Communication this year. I am very excited to be a part of MISC, especially because we get to build a community of individuals who love technology. Not only am I fascinated by cool tech like AI and Machine Learning, I’m also interested in the people aspect of all of it, which is why I chose MIS as my major. I love to eat, whether that’s at all the new Edmonton restaurants or cooking at home!”

“Hey! I’m Robyn and I am incredibly thrilled to be this year’s Academic Director. I am entering my 2nd year at the Alberta School of Business with an MIS major and an OM minor, two technical fields that go hand-in-hand. I am very passionate about information and analytics, so having the opportunity to help bridge business and technology for students at ASoB is something I am looking forward to. Outside of sitting on Twitter and Spotify for hours, I love to play any kind of sport, work out at the gym or try to find the best places on campus to take a nap. If you ever need a rock climbing partner, I’m your girl!”

“Hey! I’m Samantha, and I am psyched to be joining the MIS Club team as the VP Academic for this year. Leading this portfolio, my responsibilities mainly involve organizing the academic content of our exciting events so please reach out if there are any technology related subjects you are eager to learn about! I chose to be involved with the MIS club because I am fascinated by how leading technologies are being integrated into business (AI, machine learning, and big data to name a few). This club gives students an opportunity to connect with business technology professionals and organizations, and the MIS Major is a great opportunity for students who want a formal education that will lead to great opportunities in the field. This will be my 2nd year at ASoB and I am pursuing a major in Operations Management and a minor in Mathematics; I chose this stream because I plan on pursuing a Masters in Business Analytics or Data Science after university. When I’m not playing with spreadsheets or crunching out equations you will find me either mountain biking in the river valley, watching star wars, or playing with my 2 amazing, hilarious, awesome kids.”
